DAB+ Map for Belgium

Early 2019, I and some fellow radio hobbyists were in search for good sources of information about DAB+ radio transmitter sites in Belgium. The main reason was that a few smart guys wrote free software applications that shows the received transmitter on a map or show at least give the TII-code (Transmitter Identification Information) that can be looked up. Those applications are working with SDR-radios. The cheapest one is the RTL-SDR dongle costing only 10 Euros. The application with the most possibilities is QIRX and can be found HERE. There is also Qt-DAB and DAB-Scanner. Some says this one is more sensitive, but I could never notice that.

Hardware radios are often more sensitive but I am not aware of any that is capable to show the TII-code.

OK so far, but if you want to show received transmitters on a map you need a database. I was trying together with Herman Wijnants to compile one. We asked the the transmitter operators Norkring and Broadcast Partners for information, but none ever replied.  Luckily the details from the RTBf sites were freely available. So there was no other solution but driving next to every site and measure the TII codes on the spot. This job was completed after almost a year and results in this map.  Our findings were also uploaded to FMList which on his turn provides the database for the QIRX application.

Zoom in and click on the antenna icons to get more information about that location.

A complete list of all programmes with their transmitter sites can be found on this FMSCAN page.
